Speaking at a meeting with the NYT's digital staff, his supposedly off-the-record comments have somehow made it onto video sharing website Vimeo, in which he refers to the "impending Apple Slate".
His comment in full speaks of getting content from the NYT news room in to different digital channels, one of which is the rumoured-but-almost-definitely-in-the-pipeline Apple "Slate".
He said: "I'm hoping we can get the newsroom more actively involved in the challenge of delivering our best journalism in the form of Times Reader, iPhone apps, WAP, or the impending Apple Slate, or whatever comes after that."
We could attribute this comment to Keller speculating just the same as we've been doing all year, but the close relationship Apple has with the New York Times would suggest that he may know a bit more than Joe Public.
The NYT website appears in Apple adverts, and there were rumours earlier this year that reps from the newspaper met up with some of Jobs' people to talk delivering the paper's content to a "new device", so Keller's comments can certainly be taken with more than a pinch of salt.
Of course all remains to be seen next year when we're expecting to hear official word of Apple's internet tablet, but expect plenty of rumours to crop up between now and then.
We'll be keeping you up to date on all the news on this, in the meantime be sure to catch Keller's comments for yourself at around 8 minutes 15, and let us know what you reckon below.
