Hearty FIFA 16 demo hits the pitch on PlayStation and Xbox platforms

Several teams and multiple modes included, plus the first chance to play as women's squads

If, like millions of gamers each year, you’re anxiously awaiting the release of the new FIFA this month, you’re in luck: a playable demo is rolling out to all platforms, and it actually sounds like a pretty comprehensive taste of the annual football sim.

Out now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 – with a PC release to follow later today, says EA Sports – the demo delivers playable action in advance of the full game’s 22 September release. And one of the key additions of this year’s game features prominently in the demo.

As revealed this summer (and knee-jerk reactionaries decried), FIFA 16 adds playable women’s international squads for the first time ever, and the demo includes the United States and German teams, which can be pitted against each other. On the men’s side of things, the following squads made the cut: FC Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, Borussia Mönchengladbach, Chelsea FC, Inter Milan, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid C.F., River Plate, and the Seattle Sounders.

You can hop into the Kick-Off mode for a quick match – probably very quick, given that it’s a demo – plus the teaser has the FIFA Ultimate Team Draft Mode, new FIFA Trainer feature for helping rookies earn their stripes, and a handful of playable skill games to assist in that process.

It’s available on all four consoles in the UK, although PlayStation players in the U.S. will get it this afternoon. Go grab it if you’re counting down the days ’til the proper release, and while it’s downloading, be sure to read our interview with EA Sports’ creative director Matthew Prior about all the new tweaks and enhancements coming in this year’s edition.
