If one of your relations (a) likes playing football and (b) constantly moans about your impersonal Christmas presents, Nike ID might have the answer.
Its new super-charged boot building service now lets you choose the leather type, stud configuration, and get personal inscriptions woven into the upper, alongside the usual option of designing the entire colour scheme down to the laces. The boots might be pricey (upwards of £120), but the process is all free of charge.
You can do the whole shebang online at nikeid.com, though it's best to head over to Nike Town London's Boot Room, where you can try on the many boot types and, when your boot arrives, get it steamed so it fits like a sock. If you're buying for someone else, you'll need to order before 2nd December to guarantee Christmas delivery.
At Nike Town, you start by choosing between Nike's CTR360, Mercurial, Tiempos and Total 90s, then get a blank pair to check the fit.
Once you're fitted, it's then just a case of going through Nike ID on a computer and crafting a subtle masterpiece with a personal inscription or a technicolour monstrosity, depending on your preference.
Delivery takes roughly three weeks, and once the boots have arrived you can chuck them in Nike Town's free steamer (below) to get an extra-snug fit. If you still shank your penalty three yards wide, you've only got yourself to blame.
