Battery extenders may not be the most thrilling (or beautiful) accessories, but if you’re a smartphone-packing road warrior, they’re a lifeline.

Should John Q Salesman have an HTC HD2 nestled in his pocket, he’ll now be able to give it some extra battery beef for £40 – good news as it was first rumoured to wear a price tag nearly £15 higher.

And while the box’s bulge doesn’t flatter the handset’s slimline figure, at first glance we’ve seen much worse looking battery boosting solutions.

The life-extending accessory also features a nifty pop-out kickstand, great for watching videos on the 4.3-inch screen or browsing the mobile web over Wi-Fi or 3G on the multitouch interface.

No word yet on how much extra juice the pack will supply to your phone.
