Developer gets iPhone working with Android Wear

Could we soon see iPhones sending notifications to Android Wear devices? Well, probably not in an official capacity – but you can watch a developer pull it off above. Mohammad Abu-Garbeyyeh created an app that taps into the Apple Notification Center Service (ANCS), much like a Pebble watch would, to get basic notifications sent over to the Android-powered Moto 360 smartwatch.

Granted, getting a text message notification represents only a very base level of functionality for Android Wear – the watch needs an Android phone for voice search and app compatibility, which may never be possible with iOS unless there’s an official solution. Abu-Garbeyyeh says he might release his .apk for the watch, and that the iPhone needn’t be jailbroken to be compatible.

Google has said it would like to expand Android Wear beyond Android phones at some point, but there are a lot of roadblocks and red tape that line the path between now and a possible future of iOS compatibility. And with the Apple Watch en route, chances are that Apple doesn’t want to invite another competitor into the ecosystem.

Spielberg interested in Indiana Jones revival

Chris Pratt is reportedly being eyed as Harrison Ford’s replacement in an Indiana Jones film revival, but while the lead actor may well change, the man helming the film might be exactly the same. Deadline reports that Steven Spielberg is interested in returning for the fifth film, even though his Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull wasn’t as enthusiastically received as earlier entries.

Still, the man is responsible for bringing the character to the big screen, and has directed several other beloved films: if he’s up for it, we’d guess it’s his project for the taking. And he reportedly hand-picked Pratt for Jurassic World, so he may be very keen on overseeing the surging young actor in the big role.

Wearable tomato-feeder designed for Japan Marathon

Most of the wearable tech we spotlight aims to be subtle and quietly fit into your daily life (well, maybe not Sony’s SmartEyeglass), but this tomato-feeding robot is one significant exception.

It was apparently designed by tomato company Kagame for a runner at the Japan Marathon this past weekend, and Gizmodo says it’s also part of a PR-orchestrated feud with potassium-filled bananas. Sure. OK. Well, it makes for an amusing video, at least.

Kanye West is working on a video game

Outspoken rapper Kanye West is working on a video game, he told radio station Power 105.1 last week. It’s inspired by his new single, “Only One” with Paul McCartney, which is about his late mother. “The idea is: it’s my mother going through the gates of heaven, and you have to bring her to the highest gates of heaven by holding her to the light,” says West.

He claims that he and collaborators have been working on the game for about six months now, but that’s all he had to say. The song’s video is very minimal in composition (see above), so perhaps the game will follow that model. We’re most curious to find out what kind of form the game takes, but we have a feeling that whenever it’s ready, West will let everyone know.
