Facebook Deals goes live in the UK

Geolocation naysayers, prepare to eat your words (but at least you’ll be able to wash it down with a free coffee)

Thirsty? Have a coffee. How much? Yours for the price of saying, “I’m here.” Facebook’s Places Deals have come to the UK this morning, meaning it’s no longer just Statesiders who can jimmy a bit of extra value from their favourite social network.

The service – which users check in to à la Foursquare – means partnering companies Starbucks, Debenhams, Argos, Alton Towers, O2 and Mazda can offer their customers freebies, deals and perks. Starbucks is offering free coffee to punters checking in its shops today.

What do you think? Will we see a 2011 coffee stampede? Or is this just a flash in the social network’s pan?
