Facebook adds ‘listen’ button to band pages

Want to hear the tunes while you scour your favourite band’s social media for tour rumours? Facebook’s got music for your ears

If there was one corner of the social media game where MySpace was arguably still better than Facebook, it’s music. Other than poorly implemented embeds, the latter’s taken a pretty lazy view on listening while you look.

Now Facebook is answering that complaint, by adding a ‘listen’ button to artist’s pages, allowing you to hear the music via a third-party streaming app of your choice.

The ‘listen’ button – which appears next to the ‘like’ button – defaults to Spotify, though other services (such as Deezer) are expected to follow. In the States, for instance, there are already options for Slacker Radio, MOG and Rdio.

There’s also the option for radio stations to get involved, letting people listen to live streams and catch-up broadcasts straight from their Facebook pages. We’re listening.
