It pains me to do it, but today I’ve been forced to mildly diss eMusic.
I, and every other subscriber, received an email from the indie label download store yesterday afternoon regarding a change in its membership deals – but not for the better. Each subscription plan is to cut its number of inclusive monthly downloads by up to 15 tracks as of 20 February, while the cost will stay the same.
That means Premium members will be down from 90 downloads to 75; eMusic Plus users will have to make do with 50 rather than the usual 65; and Basic subscribers get just 30 tunes instead of 40.
There is a bright side though, and if you haven’t signed up yet now is the time to do it. For anyone who’s already a member when the date comes, the monthly download limit will stay the same.
Better clear some space on your hard drive and prepare your credit card for a minor extraction.
