Deal of the week: Forza edition Xbox One, Halo 5 & £25 gift card for £280!

Cunning cashback offer can drop that price further, too

What is it?

Probably the best value bundle we’ve seen for Microsoft’s big black box. You get a console with a massive 1TB hard disk, a free download of Forza Motorsport 6 and a £25 gift card to get started on your download collection, plus your choice of epic FPS sequel Halo 5 or Rise of the Tomb Raider thrown in for good measure.

What does it do?

It’ll transform your TV into a portal to other worlds, putting you behind the wheel of million pound sports cars, throwing you head-first into intergalactic wars and exploring epic globe-trotting locations – and that’s just the three games included in this deal. Basically it’s a games console – you know the rest.

On demand video, a built-in Blu-ray player and plenty of streaming services mean there’s plenty to do when you aren’t burning rubber or blasting aliens. You can turn it into a DVR, with HDMI inputs for running your whole home cinema system through the Xbox UI.

Oh, and you can stream your games to any Windows PC or laptop, too – so you don’t have to stop playing when someone else wants the TV.

Is it any good?

If you like racing games, you can’t get better than Forza on Xbox One. It’s drop-dead gorgeous, sure, but it gets closer to recreating the feel of actually being in control of a 600bhp supercar than any other racer on Microsoft’s console.

How? Some genius thought to put force feedback motors in the controller triggers, so you can feel when you’ve locked the brakes or are losing traction as you floor it out of a corner.

Anything wrong with it?

Well, this is a Forza special edition console – which means you’ll get a delightful revving engine sound every time you press the power button. Go to eject a disc and you’ll hear the high-pitched shrieking of a torque wrench. Subtle it aint.

Not everyone will like the weird mix of matte and glossy paint jobs, and we’re betting those racing stripes aren’t going to match the rest of your home cinema setup.

Is this a really good deal?

Shop around and you’ll probably spot a few 1TB Xbox One bundles hovering around the same price, but you’ll have to get a little crafty to make this deal pay off. According to HotUKDeals, savvy shoppers can knock off an extra £40 if they buy before Monday using Quidco.

It’s a cashback service that’s free to sign up for, and can earn you money back on most things you buy online. It might take a month or so to get your moolah, but that’s better than a £40 dent in your wallet.

OK, I’m convinced. Where do I get it?

Head to the Microsoft Store and drop it in your cart – no need for vouchers or discount codes to get the best price. Just make sure you’re signed in to Quidco and you’ll get that extra discount.
