If you followed the Eurobike show in Germany last week you might have seen a rather cool new bike accessory called the FreeCharge, which hooks up to your bike's dynamo hub and uses your the power to charge any USB gadgets.
Well, Dahon has now confirmed to us that this will be coming to the UK in March 2010 and is likely to retail for £79.
The down side of the FreeCharge is that you'll need a bike with a dynamo hub for it to work, or have one of the retrofitted numbers from Shimano and SRAM. While these have improved to the extent that you no longer feel like you're riding with the brake stuck on, they're still not exactly ten a penny in the bike world.
The other slight worry we'd have is that it looks like it might be easy to steal, meaning one more thing for bikers to carry. But the FreeCharge's ability to regulate the power from a dynamo so your gadgets don't get fried and the weatherproof case make it a potentially very nifty accessory, and one that we'll be keen to try out when it lands in Spring 2010.
