Virgin Media announces Freedom netbook

16 Jul 2009

Virgin Media's Freedom – pen and coffee not includedAll the major phone networks have released free-with-contract netbooks recently, except tardy Virgin Media. But after an extended stroke of its goatee beard, Team Branson has finally joined the party with the Freedom.

Available for free with its two-year fixed line and mobile broadband deals (which start at £20 per month), the Freedom has the standard netbook roll call of specs – Intel Atom processor, 10.2in screen, Windows XP, 1GB RAM and a 120GB hard-drive.

Sadly, it also has the common three-cell battery that’ll only give you two and half hours of play-time, though Virgin is hoping that the possibility of hooking up to its new 50Mb broadband network will help you ignore that. Sounds like this Zoostorm-made workhorse is one for the lounge rather than the road.

If you want to see how the Freedom stacks up against the competition, make sure you check out our ‘free netbooks’ vidcast special. A full breakdown of Freedom deals can also be found at Virgin Media.
