Sony slashes PS2 price

31 Mar 2009

Well, we'd heard Sony might be cutting prices on one of its consoles today, and that has happened – but not to the console we were hoping for. Sony has pruned the US MSRP of the PlayStation 2 to $99.99 (£70), starting tomorrow, 1st April. And no, this isn't an April Fool's.Good news for people who want to by a ten year old console, sure - and there are getting on for almost 2,000 titles now available for the PS2 - but it seems to us that most gamers would prefer a price cut on the PS3, which is the most expensive of the current console crop by a big margin, or some news on its next firmware update. It's a view that's echoed by the majority of the commenters under Sony's blog post announcing the price cut, with many saying they were expecting Sony's big news reveal to be a little more, well, big.Still, the day isn't done yet, so it could be that Sony has something a bit more impressive tucked up its sleeve.

god, thats exactly what a i wanted, ive been waiting for this price drop since the PS2 was released. I'm soooooooo happy. Im gunna buy load tommorow:) the thing sony dont know is that inside a ps2 there is a component made out of solid gold, which is worth more than the now current $99.99. so now i make a profit on each PS2 i buy, YAYYYYYYYYY thank you song
