SONY GAMESCOM 2009 – PS3 Slim confirmed for September

18 Aug 2009

PS3 SlimIt may have been one of the worst kept tech secrets this year, but Sony has now officially confirmed the PS3 Slim will be on our shelves in just a few weeks.

At 32 per cent smaller, 36 per cent lighter and consuming 34 per cent less power than the original PS3, we'll see the Slim on shelves across the world in the first week of September as expected.

There were no mention of any spec changes, so expect the Slim to come packing a 120GB hard drive and Blu-ray drive as standard.

As expected, there will be a price cut to 299 Euros and $299, but annoyingly no UK price was confirmed.

Going at current conversion rates that'd be somewhere between £180-£255, but we'd bet you can expect our price tag will be towards the upper end.

It was also mentioned that this price cut will also apply to the regular PS3 from tomorrow.

So there you have it folks – will you be picking up a PS3 Slim in September? Let us know below.

il be buying mine for certain. ok, its not as good looking as the original, but if you dont already own one its worth the buy. plus when its around £50 cheaper- maybe even more, its well worth the investment.

You may say it is expensive, but SONY make these at a loss. They make the real money from selling the games.

People say it's ugly, but it's a lot better looking than the hulking, white, 70's monstrosity, that is the XBox 360.

After having put up with the terrible reliability of a 360 for the last 3 years its time to go back to Sony. I think the new ps3 looks great next to the xbox. My xbox finally packed in and Im back 2 my ps2 which is still working after 5 years!!

The tech changes sound great and the increased memory too.  But I am more than happy with my 40GB model right now, so won't be splashing the cash.

I don't suppose Sony do memory expansions for the existing PS3 models?

Slimmer, faster, cheaper, more space and more portable. U can carry it in a backpack and enjoy it at a friens place. Test that against old ps3... Its a keeper.

    Thumbs up from me...

it come with the new software version, only 2 usb but looks like you get the memory card slots back.My original 60gb (which is now 250gb) still works fine though. And despite a lot of people saying there original one is load, mine rarely get that load.
