PSP 2 – more details leak out

04 Mar 2009

The PSP 2 stories just will not die. A week after talk of a slide out PSP 4000 and tales of a UMD–free slimline model, another developer has come in out of the cold and spilled the beans on Sony's plans to reboost their aging handheld.Eurogamer, which has led the way in getting PSP 2 tip offs, has managed to snag another insider willing to tell all. Again talk is of a slide–out design without a UMD slot, covering the main gaming buttons. However, there's also chatter about other design features. The shoulder buttons are set to remain exposed, which is hardly surprising. Word is though that Sony will be unleashing a string of new games that utilise just these buttons, approaching developers about potential new titles. The PSP 2 is still being pegged for a late 2009 release. But after Sony told us here at Stuff last week we,"...should keep an eye out at the trade shows," our money's on a big announcement at E3 in LA this summer.Tell us what you think in the comments section. i can tell you exactly why they're keen on the shoulder buttons. they'll be looking to have games with the console slid up using the multitouch, meaning the shoulder buttons will be the only ones accessible.

Am I the only person in the world who hates controlling games using an accelerometer?  It totally puts me off playing games on my iPhone and I think that tilting your controller to turn on games like mario kart on the wii is garbage. What's wrong with good old dpads?

waterhouse_melons To be fair, this isn't the same story. There are new details re. shoulder pads and touchscreen, that were not previously in the public domain and therefore I've covered it. If we just left it, there'd be a big wait and essentially no news at Stuff about what is potentially one of the biggest stories of 2009. If there's any talk about this, I am duty bound to write about it. Cheers! Joe

I've just bought a PSP3000 which will be traded in the second this launches! And no adammac5000, you're not the only one who hates accelerometers for gaming!
