PS3 Slim to hit shelves in September?

11 Aug 2009

With Gamescom starting next week, the rumours are hotting up about the highly-anticipated-but-still-unconfirmed PS3 Slim, with whispers now suggesting it could hit the shelves as early as next month. The news comes from a loose-lipped French retailer, who anonymously tipped off French media site JVN that the PS3 Slim was indeed real and set to hit shelves across Europe sometime in September.Even better than this is the news that the retailer said it would come with a slimmed down €300 (£257) price tag as well, a discount of €100 on the current price.Although we can't guarantee this price cut will be exactly translated over here, we'd expect it will point to at least a slight shaving off the price for us Brits as well – despite Sony's constant denials of any price cuts in the pipeline. There's not much longer to wait until Gamescom so hopefully everything will be much clearer by next week. As always we'll keep you updated with everything we hear – let us know if you think we'll be getting the PS3 Slim next month, or if it's just a load of rumour and speculation. Via: Joystiq

Have to say that picture looks just like the one on the normal box.

I hope there heve left the blu-ray player in it as i heard rumours (I dont know how true) that the cheaper ps3s will be without blu-ray players. Looks like i will be trading my 2 month old ps3 in for this one

I seriously doubt this is real. Surely if it was coming out in Europe next month then it'd already be out in Japan and possibly the US?

No chance of Sony removing the Blu-ray drive, Davieboy. It won't be able to play games without one!

I can't see this being true at all. As for the blu-ray, could it be a download console only as in the PSP-GO?

I don't think they would shove the PS3 slim in the niche market (growing in popularity everyday tho) of download only.

Sony want to concentrate on bringing out some new games rather than rushing out another average gaming console. (Don't flame, I own an original 60GB since release)
