PS3 movie downloads incoming

Sony has just confirmed that it will launch a movie download service this summer. The new store will be available to US punters first, before heading across the pond to Europe.

Details remain scarce at this stage, although their main man Kazuo Hirai, has promised to reveal all next month, presumably at E3 in LA.

This means we could end up waiting until next year to get a taste of the service here in the UK. We’re also keen to find out whether they’ll drop some HD action into the mix, or reserve hi–def for the hub’s Blu–Ray drive.

Either way, it looks like the competition for legal film downloads is hotting up, with Sony vying to be top dog with Microsoft’s Video Marketplace and Apple’s recently launched iTunes Movies.
