OLPC heading to Europe on 17 November

OLPC

The $100 One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) scheme has been going for well over a year now. But now the plan, which aims to get kids access to computers in the developing world a computer is hitting Europe next week.

Following the 'Give One, Get One' model used over in the US since the end of 2007, punters in 27 countries will be able to fork out £268 for a machine for themselves over on Amazon. That's obviously more than the $100 price quoted, but your money also gets a PC for a child too. So everyone's a winner.

Called the XO, it runs a pared down version of Windows XP and certainly won't be able to handle you running tons of apps to sate your media addiction. However, it is a worthy alternative to snapping up a regular netbook and should give you a nice warm glow too.

Keep an eye out on Amazon for final pricing next week.
