Nintendo DS 2 to land in time for Christmas 2010?
The DSi XL hasn't long been on the shelves, but already attentions are turning to the as yet unnamed successor to the original DS.
Games journo Raymond Padilla paid a visit to the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco last week to dig up some details on the "DS 2".
Details gathered from a number of third-party developers suggest that the successor is definitely in production, and could even be released before the end of the year.
It's reported to keep the dual-screen look, beefing up the screen size and resolution, with the gap between the two screens described as "negligible".
This could mean the new DS could function as a single display, as well as the standard two-screen play we're used to from the DS.
Based on details from the new handheld's dev kit, the new DS will also reportedly have the performance and power similar to a GameCube for more complex games, and there's also an accelerometer built-in as well for iPhone-esque positional controls.
As developers suggested their games would be ready for the handheld by the end of the year, a Christmas release sounds probable, with an announcement at June's E3 Expo in LA seeming very possible.
We'll bring you more information as we get it, but in the meantime give us your thoughts below on the new DS sibling, and check out our video review of the mega-screened DSi XL.
