MobileMe set for launch on 10 July

With less than 72 hours left until we get the iPhone 3G, Apple is readying the launch of MobileMe in the early hours of Thursday.
In a maintenance email sent out to .Mac users, Apple says, “...www.mac.com will be taken offline at 6pm PT on Wednesday, July 9th... MobileMe will be available as soon as possible during this maintenance window.”
That timing works out as 2am on 10 July here in the UK. The release is coming early in order to accommodate iPhone 3G buyers down in New Zealand, who will get there’s first owing to time differences.
MobileMe is set to replace .Mac, offering access to email, calendars and photos via the new me.com portal. Dubbed ‘exchange for the rest of us.’ You’ll get a free 60 day trail before having to choke up about £50 for the privilege of using the service.

This is welcoming news after the huge headache that was O2's online iPhone upgrading service. I've been looking forward to MobileMe and can't wait until my .Mac account is upgraded to the service. This, along with iPhone software 2.0, will keep me going until the iPhone 3G is available to upgrade to! Let's hope it won't have too many teething troubles ;o)
