Is Twitter broken?

Twitter seems to have had a mind of its own over the past few days, with reports of private tweets leaking, unfollowed users appearing in timelines and random tweets being sent as texts to users.

The folks over at Electricpig also caught wind of the problem, noting that the complaints of unfollowed users cropping up in timelines started earlier today when writer Zoe Margolis first highlighted the problem.

Even stranger is that some people are reporting the random Tweeters in their timelines have private accounts, which usually means you cannot see their tweets unless you are their follower.

A couple of the Stuff team have also reported problems with the Twitter text service. Usually you’d only receive texts when you get a direct message, but it seems random tweets are getting texted that aren’t @replies or even retweets.
