iPad priced for UK, lands on May 28

07 May 2010

As promised, iPad pre-ordering will start on Monday, later than expected and – for those who have been counting down the minutes – a long weekend away.

But, with the seemingly interminable wait almost at an end, Apple has also answered some of the burning questions surrounding the tablet’s UK launch – the price and the date you can finally have it in your hands.

Early adopters who haven’t jumped the gun and ordered from the States will be able to snap up an iPad from £430 – with prices rising to £700 for the 64GB 3G edition – and get their hands on that 9.7in touchscreen on May 28.

Here are those prices in full:

iPad Wi-Fi
16GB        £429
32GB        £499
64GB        £599

iPad 3G
16GB        £529
32GB        £599
64GB        £699

If you need help choosing, check out our reviews of both the Wi-Fi iPad and the 3G edition. Meanwhile, train your browser on Apple’s UK site to get your order in on Monday.

Ridiculous prices! You can get a macbook for not much more than a 3G 64Gb

That is really too much. I don't get why apple have to be over priced on everything and besides the screen is a finger-print magnet! Which is a major turn-off for me.

I'll be ordering mine come Monday. Yes it's more expensive than I had hoped €499 in the US which is approx £335 even when you add 17.5% vat we are still paying about £30 more in the UK. Apple have the most desirable kit out there at the moment and this will go nicely with my iPhone and mac mini.

Eh yet again Apple are over pricing a product.  The sad thing is people will pay it jsut because it's Apple.  Would the ame people pay the same price if Dell had released it?

Definitely overpriced I'd have one if the price was sensible!

That is so not fair!! How can they price them that much!!?? I'm just gonna keep my money and get something that fair!!

@Bones2502 Dell are releasing a tablet but it will run windows, i personally prefer the OS & UI on apple products. its all about opinion and what you need a product for. Sure it would be nice if the price was cheeper but that also has a lot to do with rip off Britain not just Apples valuation of their product.

I'll definitely NOT be getting one unless the price comes down.  I'm all for Apple equipment as i have a Mac but those prices are outrageous.  I'd rather spend the money on something more useful.  Rip off Apple Strikes again!!!

"Apple have the most desirable kit out there at the moment and this will go nicely with my iPhone and mac mini." That's your reason for getting one! I'm staggered, the only one worth even bothering with costs £700 for crying out loud. Even then the memory is still too low. The only use an iPad has is for portable video, music and web browsing. 64GB Is not enough for even a small amount of AV (and codec support is limited) plus web browsing is terrible. Save £300 and buy a pretty good laptop instead. Unless your an idiot.

@adrian7893 "Apple have the most desirable kit out there at the moment and this will go nicely with my iPhone and mac mini." You seem to be one of those people who subscribe to the the view that "Image is everything, substance is nothing!"   Personally, I will be reminded of the classic story "The Emperor's new clothes" whenever I see someone with one of these flashy trays and will have a little chuckle to myself over how people are blinded by great marketing.

As per usual with rotten Apple products, mugs like waspish  adrian7893 will talk up the value of the Apple product, tell uss how wonderful and superior it is, yet the realist knowes full well that it's over-hyped, over-priced and shortly over here! If Apple released the 'i-turd' - a dog poo with the infamous Apple logo on it, idiots like waspish  adrian7893 would still try to convince us what a great auroma it give off and how superior the texture was. Or just maybe 'folk' like waspish  adrian7893 really are (bad) Apple employees !!!!!!!

Don't get me wrong I'm don't just have apple kit & I'm not a windows hater. I have a dell xps16 and a samsung mid to high end laptop for my daughter. The mac mini is used mainly as a media centre and that vast majority of both mine & my wifes web browsing is done on our iPhones through convenience, for me the ipad doesn't and shouldn't be compared to a laptop or computer it is a pumped up iPod touch and is ideally suited for what I will use it for. With regard to other tablets I personally don't feel that the user experience will be as good as the ipad user interface. The amount of touch screen phones that I have tried that are a poor relation to the iPhone is staggering. We all know that there are possitives and negatives to all tech but if it suits the purpose that you are buying it for where's the problem?

Not enough spec for too much money. I'd get one if it had a dvd drive, or means to connect one, but as it is, no chance.

i think in terms of connectivity, the ipad can connect to your mac's DVD drive via bluetooth remote access. Kinda like the macbook air. Space is cramped inside this 'little' gadget so i sort of get why there is a limited memory space. However appealing the ipad may be to early adopters, wise and foolish investments of my gadget history have taught me to wait for the second generation; it will be (slightly) cheaper and have better specifications.

Worth waiting for the inevitable price drop, or get a friend in the states to buy one. I imagine as cloud services get better, the need for storage space will drop. Is there a Spotify app for the iPad? If so you wouldn't need to put any music onto it. There's probably a way to stream video to it too. The only constriction would be how many apps you could fit into it. iPad owners are already saying go for the 64GB one as apps fill it up rapidly.

Finding the hate on the iPad really funny... Id have liked the prices to be lower, but as i bought my iPad from US i kinda dont care ;-) In my mind its all about what you want the device for. I love Apple products but each of my Macbook, iPhone, iPod shuffle and iPad serves a distinct purpose for me... Macbook for main computer work at home, downloading etc.. iPhone, phone and internet when out and about, music and vids on the go iPod shuffle, for jogging and at the gym iPad, for reading comics and books, web surfing at home which is fantastic... How many of you have actually used one, im better very few... It really is awesome.

@Boggle6998 "Pad, for reading comics and books, web surfing at home which is fantastic..." How many actual books and comics could you of brought for the price you shelled out!!! No one is saying that the iPad looks bad or the interface isn't cool. It is.  It's just that I don't feel it serves any purpose that can't be beaten by other devices, such as my Mac, iPhone and hard copy books/comics
