iPad data plans – how much it’ll really cost you

So, you think you can afford an iPad… but have you actually done the maths? Apple’s posted the 3G plans for its ‘magical’ new toy on its UK site, but we’ll save you the trip…
O2
500MB per day £2
1GB per month £10
3GB per month £15
Orange
1GB per week £7.50
3GB per month £15
10GB per month £25
Vodafone
250MB per month £10
5GB per month £25
UPDATE:
Three
1GB per month £7.50
10GB per month £15
So for the moment, at least, it looks like Vodafone should be avoided. Unless you want the ‘unbelievable price’ of your ‘magical product’ to become positively ridiculous, that is.

Been and bought myself a MiFi today. £69 including 3GB PAYG. Taking on board that its £100 just to have 3G, its a no brainer cos I can't see myself using it as a SatNav

You've got to be mad to buy one at those price's. Just buy a Netbook, a lot cheaper more storage, no finger prints all over an unreadable screen. USB ports, Card readers and all for a lot less than the Ipad.

ridiculous - i would get a netbook everytime over this and get myself a dongle if i really needed mobile internet access. i think the ipads a good idea but the pricings for and ipad etc is ridiculous when you can get windows 7 netbooks for under £300!!! maybe im talking like this because i'm strapped for cash or im not st*pid?

Obviously none of you own an iPad, there so much easier than a net book to use and get out think about just wanting to check your bank or bid on eBay you have to open your net book and wait for it to boot which no people who don't own an iPad yet won't think is much trouble but compared to this (iPad) is so annoying waiting and to use the iPad is a dream it's also fantastic to show off and yes it costs abit but so does everything nowadays

The ipad is easy to use because you cant do anthing with it. A net book is much much better, and a lot cheaper.

a netbook wont play iTunes movies, its completely underpowered. I have a notebook and its fine as long a its not HD. An iPad is one of the best things you dont actually need. So don't get one if you dont want one, its a no brainer.

@andrew987williams - please enlighten me, what can you not do on an ipad? It's a very broad comment & one I don't understand. Sorry if I'm being a bit daft.

can i just ask has anyone ever give there iphone to a kid or a gran parent ? if you have you will know why the ipad was made. its to make using all the good things on the internet easier. wont ever have to virus scan it download drivers, absolutely no upkeep (if you want it that way). i just feel the ipad is lost on techies especially windows ones as they dont really understand it has limitations to help beginners not hinder experts.

I agree, my mother-in-law would love one if it had a cam for skype, her daughter lives in Chicago but she really struggles with using her laptop

I'm quite surprised that you have to have a subscription for both iPhone and iPad, sure there are the network people that have to feed their families (and buy iPads for them) but I already pay £35 per month for my usage. And to be honest I will use my iPad instead of my iPhone to listen, watch and play, so I will not use huge amount of data more than what I use already?! And what about the 3 network iPhone/iPad they have good coverage but no subscription options for Apple devices, if they claim to have the best 3G network in the UK, let them prove it by joining the revolution.

Once again apple manage to rip people off. If we need this so much then what will we do with our iphones (ANDROID Phone for people who dont like being riped off). Dont fall for the marketing hype

I'm lucky enough to have got hold of an iPad from the US and have been using it for a couple of weeks Trust me, it's so much better than I imagined it would be and is an absolutely fabulous 'coffee table' computer. Is it just a big iPhone? Yes, just like a Mercedes is a big Smart car! It is so usable that my MacBook Pro never comes out in the evening anymore. Instant on, brilliant touch screen control (yep, you do have to run a cloth over it every night to wipe off the fingerprints - oh what a chore - NOT) and the battery life is outstanding! You don't 'need' one, but if you get one, you won't be able to put it down. BTW - Stop comparing it to the silly netbook market, this is in a completely different league.

You're right a netbook and an Ipad are very different. If you just want a big Ipod to take around with you then get an Ipad. But if you want a device thats portable and can play any movie you download, any music you download, view any webpage with flash or silverlight etc, plug your printer straight into it, plug your digital camera straight into it, plays thousands of windows games, plug straight into your mates/work pc or mac or your own to swap files with no hassle at all...then get a netbook. @Eddieaa21 you dont need to wait for a netbook to boot up. Just as the Ipad goes into standby you can do the same with a netbook. Just open it up and start using it :) Come on peeps, there's obviously a few people here really buying into Apple's marketing of convincing the public that they dont need all the awesome features other devices already have (cheaper for apple to produce and shaft the poor public)... only to then add them to later apple products as "new features". Its kinda sad that apple are limiting technology in this way. Holding back consumers tech level making peeps far less productive.

yeah, it seems far more than the actual cost! eher, the ipad is really sleek and convenient, and it bring us a reading experience, a gaming experience, a browsing experience and most of all a relaxing experience, this is what is eye-catching point! well, readers or ipad fans, users might be interested in getting some more ipad tips and resources, I run into an ipad column is not bad, it gathered kinds of ipad things, such as "The Beginner's Guide to iPad Video Conversion on Mac", "Apple iPad Jailbreaking Hacks", "Tips to Turn iPad Wifi Into 3G "... and more: http://www.ifunia.com/ipad-column/index.html
