British Eee PC owners getting battery upgrade

Asus Eee PC 900Asus Eee PC 900Asus Eee PC 900Asus Eee PC 900Eee PC 900 lovers here in the UK have probably noticed their dinky laptop’s battery has been struggling to pass the hour and a half mark before taking an electronic sigh and switching itself off.

Which is why Asus is set to announce today that they’re offering a battery upgrade for us Brits. The scheme will let Eee 900 owners get hold of a heftier battery for just a tenner. Be better if it was a freebie, but at least they’re listening.

This will bring British models into line with their American cousins. Asus’s Stateside efforts currently pack in a 5800mAh battery, rather than the paltry 4440mAh version here.

An Asus spokesperson has told us we’ll be getting an official announcement later this afternoon, so keep it here for a full update as soon as we get it.

There is a HUGE row going on at the moment with the Asus eeePC 900 and its users. Asus repeatedly sent models with 5800mAh batteries to reviewers worldwide, yet when it reached the UK it has 4400mAh batteries. Never was it said that it would before launch.  They have lied, ignored users, and acted shockingly until some of us contacted Jerry Shen their CEO directly. Now a half baked offer has been put on the table.  Please read the forum thread http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?id=27140 which shows our full thoughts on the matter. Please would you report on this shocking treatment of UK buyers as Hong Kong and Singapore has had the batteries replaced, US and Italy have 5800 batteries from launch!
