Apple touchscreen netbook in line for summer release?
With talk of the 3rd gen iPhone dying down to a whisper in recent weeks and the new Mac Mini out in the wild, the Cupertino–loving rumour mill has turned its attention to plans for an Apple touchscreen netbook.According to Digitimes, Taiwanese display maker Wintek has confirmed it's working on touchscreens for new Apple products, with one of these headed for a netbook during the summer.Reports go on to suggest Quanta Computer will be building the machine for Apple. Exact sizes and specs are unsurprisingly unavailable, although the chances are this will come lacking an optical drive and obviously come packing multitouch.Apple has previously proved reticent when it comes to cheap laptops, despite admitting to having 'some interesting ideas in that area'. For our money this will be more in line with the pricey Sony Vaio P series than the Acer Aspire One.What do you think? Is an Apple netbook really on the way? Let us know in the comments section now. What are we thinking guys? I can see them doing this, but only as a really high end machine like the P series. It'll make them money and the touchscreen will keep them ahead of Sony and its rivals. Joe

I can't see it personally. I guess these rumours come from the same place that the iPhone Nano ones came from, lol. Another reason why I can't see it happening, is that in my opinion, it'll render the MacBook Air almost pointless. Does Apple think there's a viable niche for a device between the iPhone and MacBook? I don't think so.

Maybe it will be a small Macbook with a rotating, folding screen so it goes from notebook to tablet, a bit like the HP TX2 series?

I'd actually quite happily pay money for a larger iPod touch, which in essence is a tiny netbook. No need for a keyboard, because with a larger screen the touch screen keyboard would be fine for everything I want to do with a netbook equivalent. No need for a new interface the iPod touch one works beautifully.

It would be amazing to see this happen A big touch would be awesome im sure a keyboard would be neccasary though typing would be a chore on the touch screen such as the iphone and touch

I am now quite used to Netbooks in my labs, since there of tons of them in here and I am pretty much acquainted with their configurations. High end laptops makers are making lots of research for making it better but this cannot be said about low end Netbooks. Its configurations are pretty much the same and hence there is no real difference in the performance of these Netbooks. So the competition is pretty much limited to design and build quality.
