Apple iPad international launch delayed

Apple has announced that international availability of the iPad has been postponed until the end of May.

Blaming a "surprisingly strong" demand for the delay, Apple said it had been a difficult decision, but made no apology – simply saying its customers would be pleased to hear of the iPad’s "runaway success" in the US.

A statement read: "Although we have delivered more than 500,000 iPads during its first week, demand is far higher than we predicted and will likely continue to exceed our supply over the next several weeks."

It also noted it had taken a large number of US pre-orders for the iPad 3G for delivery by the end of April.

To soften the blow, Apple has confirmed it will unveil international pricing and begin taking online pre-orders from 10 May.

Will you be waiting until then to make your order, or importing it from the US? Let us know below.

Nah, they couldn't keep up with demand..they should never have stated late April for International release.

Massive dissapointment to their other markets...but obviously America is the only important one, hey Apple?

I'm importing...to be honest Boggle6998, you have it nearly 2 months in advance and that costs the extra price...says all the preordering and the obviously rubbish launch allocation UK will get (because we're not American).

The 16gb ipad will definately not be any lower then £449 i reckon.
