Apple announces new MacBook Pro

MacBook Pro

Apple has just ripped the covers off their new MacBook Pro. The new top-end notebook, which matches the spy shots we copped a look at last month, packs in a new glass multitouch trackpad, NVIDIA graphics and is built using the new "Brick" technique talked up all over the web.

Also known as an "aluminium unibody enclosure" (hum), it comes with a backlit keyboard, iSight camera, sudden motion sensor and all connectors shoved on one side.

NVIDIA's GeForce 9400M and 9600M come under the hood, which Jobs claims will make graphics six times faster. Handy if you're of the design and film editing persuasion.

USB fans will be pleased they haven't gone all MacBook Air on us, offering two inputs along with an optical drive, Firewire, mini display port and a battery indicator down the side. Wireless n and Bluetooth are also on board.

There'll also be SSD versions, as well as HDD models, so punters who fancy pricey but safer storage are welcome here. The £1,399, 15.4in model will come with 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo and 2GB of RAM, with a pricier £1,749 model rocking 4GB RAM and a 320GB hard drive.

How does this match up with the 5 Things We Want From the New MacBook Pro? And what do you think? Let us know below...

I think you will all agree that apple have really stung us price wise. I was waiting for the so called £500 mac book or maybe even the £600 pound macbook but to pay £949 for the new model is ridiculous. I see the Americans have once again being given a more affordable pricing structure. Lets hope the pound will get stronger by xmas so I can buy one over there. Thanks Jobsy what a huge let down. Very Cheesed off

Just annoyed Joe. I love apple products and think the new gear looks great but why do we constantly get ripped off and why are the ipods a better price match and also the app store. Apple must think we arent heading towards a recession and most of us have a spare 1500 to spend on a luxury laptop. Microsoft, Dell, Asus, Sony etc must be delighted with the news. I cant see there being much of que outside my local Apple Store over the next few days. Sure I will have a look but I think my money might be better spent on something else. Regards Simon

First of all, Apple has never been known for cheap prices, quality well designed products, yes, but it comes at a cost.   Secondly, no-one in Apple ever mentioned a sub £600 macbook, that was pure media speculation, which you can't blame on Apple.

Yes but they rarely put the prices up. I thought maybe 699, 799 and 899 would have been a more appropriate pricing plan pretty similar to what we had already. £1149 is a hell of a lot for apples cheaper laptop. How do you justify an increase on the white macbook. All the talk and speculation is about what people want. See Stuffs "what we want from the next macbook" I would also beg to differ on the quality aspect. My current macbook has been in for long repair 3 times in the last 2 years and my imac twice.

"How do you justify an increase on the white macbook. All the talk and speculation is about what people want. See Stuffs "what we want from the next macbook" Well from what I can tell the old entry level macbook came with a combo drive as standard, the new one come with a superdrive, an upgrade I would quite like if they offered it to me for £20. As for the what we want thread, well I want an Audi R8 for the price of a Ford Fiesta but I'm not holding my breath. That said, I'm holding onto my macbook for the time being, had it for three years and never a problem yet,....... just tempted fate haven't I.

yes but Stuffs Wants for the new macbook were realistic. Your R8 for a Ford Fiesta is never going to happen and the reason why your hanging on to your old macbook is because the new ones are more expensive. So your point is not making too much sense.

No, the reason I'm hanging on to my macbook is that there is nothing wrong with it.  The same reason that I still use my Nikon D80, even though the D90 is now available, it's reliable and does exactly what I want, just like my Macbook. That said I'm going to visit the Apple store in Belfast tomorrow, depending on the look, feel and overall desirability factor, I may just take a hit on the old credit card, and give my existing one to my daughter.
