Is Nokia planning a new internet tablet?

Finnish phone giant Nokia is planning to take a renewed stab at the growing tablet market, according to an analyst close to the company’s technology partners.

Following the launch of its Nokia Booklet 3G netbook last year, Rodman Renshaw analyst Ashok Kumar says the company is keen to expand its portfolio of portable products outside of phones, and jumping back on the tablet bandwagon seems a sensible choice.

Of course, Nokia is no stranger to portable tablets with the launch, and swift failure, of its 4-inch 770 tablet in 2005, not to mention the uninspiring N800 and N810 that followed.

But what makes this move all the more believable is the recent partnership between Intel and Nokia to create the MeeGo operating system. At its launch it was said that the OS would sit pretty on a range of devices, tablets included.

Nokia has so far refused to comment, but it seems like a valid market for Nokia to want to stake a claim in. We’ll be keeping our ear to the ground on this, and keep you updated with everything we hear.
