Google Chromebook Pixel with hi-res touchscreen teased

Is Google planning a Chromebook with a 4 million pixel touchscreen? If a mysterious video is the real deal, then… possibly.

The video shows off what appears to be a concept model called the Chromebook Pixel, boasting of a touchscreen with 4 million pixels (which might work out to a resolution of 2560 x 1700). It’s a slick, professional teaser that doesn’t reveal much in the way of details, but nevertheless “feels” like it could be an actual promo.

Late last year we also heard rumours of a 12.85in touchscreen Chromebook coming in the first quarter of 2013.

Google’s keeping schtum on the clip, but if it is real it represents quite a leap forward for the Chromebook brand. Until now, Google-branded Chromebooks (made by the likes of Acer and Samsung) have been cheap, relatively low-specced machines designed for simple, everyday tasks like web browsing and word processing.

Needless to say, we’ll be keeping our ears pressed to the ground for more news on the Google Chromebook Pixel.
