E3 2010 – Project Natal renamed Xbox 360 Kinect

14 Jun 2010

Project Natal is no more, long live Kinect! Okay, it's the same thing, just retitled.

Thankfully, Microsoft has finally given its revolutionary motion-sensing Xbox 360 peripheral a real name – over a year since we first found out about Project Natal at E3 2009.

Also announced was the addition of Video Chat, which cleverly enables you to use the Kinect for, er, video chat.

Expect the Kinect to cost around £100 when it arrives in time for Christmas.

Seen it all before, Xbox Eyetoy adds nothing new.  Games where you MUST stand to play them (MS has recently admitted you have to stand for it to recognise your skeletal shape) limits its usefulness to the twee rip offs of Wii games.  Yes that's right folks, that video MS released was faked with actors miming to pre-rendered video clips, and shows capabilities the real thing simply CANNOT do. Racing games can't use your feet for accelerating and braking, and how long will you want to stand around for playing a shooter before you get bored and go back to standard controllers. Come on MS, get some of your own ideas for once and stop feeding us lies!
