Windows Surface RT tablets will be thinner and lighter than the iPad, with 13 hour battery life

Microsoft's upcoming Windows 8 Surface RT tablets will be thinner and lighter than the iPad according to Microsoft – its lightest Windows Surface tablet will weigh in at just 520gm more than 100g lighter than Apple's iPad.

The Redmond tech giant has also got its callipers out and measured its thinnest Windows RT tablet at 8.35mm, versus the iPad's 9.41mm girth.

The ARM-based version of the Microsoft Surface range will also happily churn out up to 13 hours of HD video with up to 409 hours in standby mode, which is good news for road warriors.

As yet there's no word on dimensions or battery life for the Intel-powered Windows 8 Pro tablets, but we're expecting Microsoft to spill those details soon.
