If you still have fond memories of early handheld consoles like the Gameboy, this announcement will be right up your street. Blaze, maker of retro handhelds like the Blaze Sega Megadrive, is set to release an open source handheld called GameGadget.

The new unit promises to let developers blow the dust off old gaming titles and relaunch them on the GameGadget's soon-to-be-launched online store. Loaded onto an SD card, they can then be enjoyed in all their glory, and on the go.

The open source platform also means that users and wannabe programmers can tweak the operating system and develop their own games as they like.

Scheduled to launch in January, it'll be available exclusively from gamegadget.net for £100.

I think i've seen stuff like this before, but not that has a proper software application or anything.
