Apple Mac Mini gets an update

It’s easy to lose sight of the Mac Mini amongst the slew of other announcements that have echoed from the epicentre of Apple HQ today, but it’s safe to say the new micro machines are definitely worth a look. A new Thunderbolt port means that the refreshed little boxes can connect to Apple’s new 27in IPS Thunderbolt display, and the 2.3GHz dual-core i5 – or 2.0Ghz quad-core i7 – processor options should offer plenty of grunt for even the most demanding of Mac-heads.

HDD options range from 500GB to 750GB hard drives as well the option for a speedier 256GB SSD and you can also choose to boost the 4GB of RAM up to a hefty 8GB if you really want to burn up the spec sheets. Prices start from a manageable £530 and can reach a whopping £1810 if you’re particularly power-hungry and opt for the maxed-out server model. All configurations will of course come pre-loaded with Mac OS X Lion which has bounded out of its cage at last and we’ll be giving you our impressions of the new OS once we get our eager paws around it.
