[intro]Now would be a good time for Adidas to cash in on Champions League fever and release the official final ball. What a surprise, here it is[/intro]
Thanks to some outrageously good play from Manchester United and Chelsea last night, English football fans are high on Champions League fever. So high, in fact, that Adidas reckons we'll remove £75 from our Apple iPhone fund to buy its official new final ball.
Having resisted the temptation to supply one of those one-quid plastic balls that you thumped against your parents' patio door for the showpiece occasion, Adidas has again opted to go the 'science' route for its 'Finale Athens'. All hail the 'new carcass construction' and 'thermal bonding', which explain the £75 price tag, and its fetching blue-and-white design.
Of course, you'd have to be madder than Roma's defensive coach to pay that much for a football, but as I'm feeling a little light-headed about Liverpool's chances, I'll probably find myself calling the stockist (0870 2404 204) tomorrow.
