Screen wars heat up as Samsung drops Super AMOLED Plus on Infuse 4G
Blinding stuff... it started with Samsung’s Super AMOLED at last February’s Mobile World Congress (on the Bada-powered Wave). Then Apple came along with a print-grade resolution on its iPhone 4 Retina Display. Moments ago LG busted out 700 nits worth of NOVA display on the Optimus Black. And now Samsung is replying with a massive 4.5in Super AMOLED Plus screen on the Infuse 4G, with half as much again sub-pixel count as the non-Plus version. The handset may not make it to Europe, but you can bet your two-year contract we’ll be seeing some serious display shootouts at next month’s MWC in Barcelona. If – as seems likely – Samsung does reversion the Infuse for us Europeans, you can expect a spec list that includes an 8MP cam (plus 1.3MP frontal), 1.2GHz single-core Hummingbird processor and Android 2.2 (hopefully 2.3 by then). We might have scoffed at the idea of using a 7in Galaxy Tab as a phone. We may even have tittered a little as we raised the 5in Dell Streak to our cheek. But the invasion of plus-size, uber-resolution, sunshine-defying screens is upon us. We’re off to get our shades on...All stories from CES
