LG Spectrum – first look
First up, we got a nice demo of the ESPN Sports app that LG wants Americans to get excited about. And the HD basketball coverage, streamed in 720p, did look very impressive on the Spectrum's 1280 x 720 screen. Sky, we hope you're paying attention.
The 329ppi display looked sharp and bright – fans of both movies and crisp text will love it. We'll have to stick the Spectrum next to an iPhone 4S in the cold light of day to really compare the True HD IPS display to the might of Apple's Retina Display though.
The Spectrum didn't exactly wow us with its build – it's only 0.42" thick but it seemed a little chunky. Then again to fit in that massive 4.5in screen, the Spectrum does stand over 5in tall.
Inside the LG Spectrum's less than mind-blowing form factor, it's the usual Android Gingerbread fare but LG has promised that an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update will be rolled out in the near future.
In our brief demo, we didn't get a chance to try out the LG Spectrum's 8MP rear camera or get a feel for how that 1.5Ghz dual-core Qualcomm processor handles multi-tasking or gaming – but we'd bet both are up to scratch.
We'll keep you posted if LG decides to treat us to a 3G version of the Spectrum anytime soon.
