Sony Cybershot HX1

Sony's new flagship compact draws on their line of winning Alpha SLRs. That means you get a 9.1MP 'Exmor' sensor giving you ten fps shooting, a sweep panorama mode to give your work that David Hockney feel, full 1080p video and a massive 20x optical zoom. It'll be on shelves in April.

Samsung NX series

Sammy's new hybrid line–up will be fully unveiled later this year. But the Korean giant has shown off some early plans, with an electronic viewfinder replacing the mirror box found in a DSLR. That means it's 60 per cent smaller than a full–on snapper, but with similar style and a powerful sensor.

Olympus M1/M100

Sticking with the prototype theme, Olympus announced its blueprint for a micro four thirds camera. The M1, also known as the M100, will come with a compact body, rather than the slimmed down DSLR style of other micro four thirds models, such as the Olympus E–140.

Ok, Canon outed this a couple of weeks back, but it's been doing its thing over at PMA in Vegas this week. A slick looking compact, the SX200 crams in tons of features including HDMI, sweeping panoramics, 720p video and a 12x optical zoom. It's the perfect antidote to all the other hefty cameras on show.
