Panasonic Lumix G1: hands-on video

09 Oct 2008

Panny has launched its new Lumix G1, a 12.1MP compact that disguises itself as a DSLR. According to the camera company, it’s the world’s smallest interchangeable lens camera and it’s the first we’ve seen using the micro four-thirds systems developed by Panasonic and Olympus. Although the body bears all the traits of a compact, you get the benefits of a range of different SLR lenses and if you purchase an adaptor, you’ll be able to use your existing four-thirds lenses as well. Inside, the shooter boasts auto-intelligent scene selection, motion tracking, face detection and a nifty sensor that switches the preview from full-time live view LCD screen to the viewfinder when you hold the camera to your face. Neat. The swing out screen and 100% field of view helps you take the perfect picture, while RAW capture mode and an HDMI out keeps things super detailed. The Lumix G1 will be on sale at the start of November, but before you buy check out our preview and hands-on video. Essentials Panasonic Lumix G1 Price: £599 On sale: November Contact: Panasonic
