Canon 1D X raises the game for DSLRs

Don't let the reassuringly familiar looks of the Canon 1D X deceive you. Not content to tweak the 1D Mark IV, Canon has packed its latest flagship DSLR with tons of upgrades and new tech that should have other DSLRs fearing for their lives early next year.

To kick off, the 1D X has a 18.1MP full-frame CMOS sensor and a new 61-point autofocus system with a bunch of new AF presets. That sensor's supported by dual Digic 5+ imaging processors and the 1D X is also packing an optical viewfinder and a 3.2in LCD screen with 1040k-dot resolution.

This 10th gen professional SLR has a top ISO setting of 204,000 and can shoot up to 12fps and 14ps for continuous shooting. And movie-makers will like the full HD 1080p video capabilities at 24, 25 and 30 fps.

Canon has given a tentative release date of next March and no pricing is confirmed but the guide price is set at an eye-watering £5,300.
