Buying funky dance moves in Destiny will fund new, free content

If you’re reading this, then congratulations – you’ve managed to leave Destiny‘s incessantly relentless loot grind, for a few precious minutes at least.

While you’re here, we’ve got some exciting moves. Sorry, news. Exciting news. About moves. Dance moves, in fact.

That’s right, Bungie has announced that Destiny players can look forward to 18 new emotes (which include dance moves and other cosmetic items) from 13 October. Praise the Traveler.

Before you whoop for joy and start doing the worm or funky chicken (which we hope are included) in celebration, you will have to pay for them. Boooo. Hissss.

Don’t work yourselves up too much though. Bungie has stressed that these emotes are completely optional, and will have no impact on the game, progress, or content whatsoever. Though you might be missing out on moonwalking over the corpses of your enemies.

The new emotes can be bought from in-game character Tess Everis with a new currency called Silver. Silver itself can be bought from the PlayStation and Xbox stores with real life funds, and the exchange rate has yet to be confirmed. Players will also be gifted with enough Silver to buy one or two emotes come launch day.

This new move also has much larger ramifications than simply making a fool of yourself at the hangar bar however. Bungie has stated that its “plan is to use these new items to bolster the service provided by [its] live team for another full year, as they grow and create more robust and engaging events that [they’ll] announce later this year”.

These optional microtransactions then, will fund additional story missions and DLC over the next year – all of which should be free.

That should means no more forking out lumps of cash money for updates like the House of Wolves DLC, though we are a little worried that this new move might mean less content-packed updates. We’ll just have to wait and see.
