British Black Friday bargains

Importing Americanisms? Boo! But wait – look at the deals we're getting

Black Friday. The day Americans get up at 4am, head to their nearest warehouse mall and get violent in the name of cheap stuff. It’s the busiest day of the shopping year Stateside, and while ours is traditionally in early December, some of that bargain basement attitude has rubbed off in the UK. Here are the best deals you’ll find today…

Apple iPad 16GB Wi-Fi

£394, store.apple.com/uk

The king of tablets – faced with increasing competition – has shrugged off its £430 asking price in favour of a sub-£400 sticker. That £35 saving applies throughout the iPad range and there are further savings to be had on cases, docks and other accessories.

Samsung PS50C680 50in plasma 3DTV

£900, bestbuy.co.uk

Currys is also offering up this massive slice of 3D HD wonderment with a £900 label on it (normal price: £1300), but head to Best Buy and they’ll throw in Sammy’s BDC 5900 3D-ready Blu-ray player. All in, you’re looking at a saving of almost £600.

Monster Beats by Dr Dre studio high-def headphones

£200, amazon.co.uk

Amazon’s doing its best to recreate an online mall rampage with its “lightning deals” – but you’ll have to go and fight for those rolling impulse bargains yourself. Of the deals you won’t have to snipe for, Dre’s Monster Beats for £200 (an £80 saving on the normal rate) looks the most appealing. You’ll have to wear white, though. The doctor’s customary black colour scheme is still going for the full £280.

Lenovo IdeaPad Z560

£580, play.com

Sure, there are cheaper laptops to be had out there, but not all of them are running top-line spec like an Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB DDR3 RAM, 640GB hard drive and discrete Nvidia GeForce 310M graphics like Lenovo’s 15.6in IdeaPad. And with £120 knocked off the list price, now would be the time to pick one up.

Samsung WB600

£145, pixmania.co.uk

Serious camera fans have been left out of the Black Friday running a bit, but for the common-or-garden photography enthusiast, Sammy’s 15x zoom 12MP WB600 screams value at this knocked-down price (it normally sells for £250). That layout also covers 3200 ISO and there’s optical image stabilisation thrown in, too.
