BBC iPlayer goes HD

Thanks to some comments let slip by BBC Vision's director Jana Bennett last month, we already had wind that BBC iPlayer HD content was on the way, and

BBC favourites like Doctor Who and Dragons' Den have all been slated for release on the new HD channel, and are touted to be nearly twice as good as the current high quality offering.

You won't even have to do anything different to get the HD content. When you log on, the updated iPlayer will take a look to see if your internet connection can hack the pace for HD, and automatically switch the streaming options to give you the best picture for your connection.

At the moment, the new HD service will only be available on the iPlayer website but there are plans to get it rolling on the likes of Virgin's set top box and PlayStation 3 as well.
