Spotify iPhone app update incoming

Spotify for iPhone

Spotify has announced that the first update for its iPhone app should be with us in a matter of weeks.

Submitted for approval to the Apple store today, the update will include a number of bug fixes as well as some added extras as well.

These will include Last.fm scrobbling, a new star button to choose favourite tracks and albums to help find them easier (also coming the desktop version soon) and the ability to open and play Spotify links, direct from your browser or Facebook app.

There’s also new support for a lower bitrate of 96 kb/s for when your connection is slower. You’ll have to put up with lower audio quality, but at least you’ll be able to keep playing your tunes.

Finally, you’ll also be able to bring tunes saved elsewhere on your iPhone into the app and listen them alongside your Spotify tunes, saving you from syncing them all over again.

Of course as with the app currently, you’ll need to be a premium subscriber to get all the functionality. If you are, keep an eye out for the update in the coming weeks, and if you’re not, be sure to check out our Spotify app video review to see what we thought.
