Poll – Will you be signing up for OnLive's cloud gaming?

11 Aug 2011

It's been available for over a year in the US, but OnLive's cloud gaming service is finally preparing to launch in the UK on September 22 – just in time for us to head indoors for some winter fragging.

The service is promising to launch with over 100 games and deliver blindingly fast streaming speeds. But will you be pushing aside your Xbox to become an early adopter? Or do you have reservations about its games library or the ability of your broadband pipes to cope? Vote and comment below and you could appear in the October issue of Stuff, out 7 September.

I remeber reading about this a while back. I think its a brilliant idea but with the state of our current ISPs I don't think it will take off!

I really like the idea of onlive and I'm very keen to see it in action. My only fear is my broadband connection. I am a BT customer but as I live in a small town in Scotland, Infinity has yet to be rolled out here and I imagine without it Onlive will be unplayable. Hope I'm wrong though.

I love the idea and have tried the US version on my p.c for the last few months. Great fun and some really good offers out there for cheap games on onlive. my broadband from Sky doesnt handle it so will be going over to vrigin 50mb just before launch. I love console gaming but want something else to tinker with! :)

As much as I think this is where gaming will eventually head, I can't help but dislike it. Not because of broadband speeds, but purely because when I spend £40-£50 on a game I like to have something in my hands, which shows that I have indeed bought something and that can go on a shelf with the rest of the collection, rather than something vaguely metaphysical. You can't beat the smell of a new games manual!

In theory, full on games on low power systems sounds like a good idea however OnLive will probably have to satisfy ISPs/Mobile Networks for the high data usage which could add additional monthly costs and what happens if the Internet goes down? 4G LTE Networks would also need to be setup fast for on-the-go gaming.
