Opinion – What app would you like to see invented?

Smartphones and tablet apps are multiplying at a terrifying rate, allowing portable gadgets to increasingly assume the form of digital swiss army knives.
Which is surely only a good thing, right? Well, as anyone who's rifled through the obscure corners of the App Store or Android Market will attest, not always. Quantity quite often fails to translate to quality, and areas of genuine utility are left unexplored as developers attempt to discover the next cash cow.
So, leaving profit and development skills aside, what would your dream app do? And how would it improve geek lives? Let us know in the comments below and you could star in the September issue of Stuff (on shelves 3rd August).

Maybe this already exists but what I would like to see would be a cross between a bar code reader/product search/gift wish list that could add in to Facebook or other social networks.
Users could add presents they would like to receive on to a wishlist by scanning with their smartphone or just clicking a button on websites. Facebook could then send out reminders to friends when it is an occasion they might want to buy someone a gift or friends could search their friends wishlist if they feel like surprising them and of course the most competitive prices from various retailers could be compared before you buy.

What about an app based on software like Google Goggles, which will scan your incoming texts? If you get sent a sext the app will automatically text back with an encouraging or belittling response, depending on user-defined parameters of length or curviness. I'd call it SextCheck.

A shopping list app that would update prices with the shops, that way you would know how much everything would cost

I could do with an app called iDrunk. You simply put your phone in your pocket before you go to the pub and it uses the accelerometer to warn you when you've fallen over.

How about an app that alerts you your car alarm has been activated, with if possible several small mini camera's in the car interior looking out of the windows, a mini speaker on the exterior hidden so you can speak into your smart device's microphone and talk to the person who is trying to steal your car or someone who has bumped your car and get their details either by conversation or recording the event.
