A new job advert has shown Apple is looking to push the iPhone OS out of the nest and onto new platforms and hardware.
The advert for an Engineering Manager reads: "The Core Platform team within Apple's Core OS organization is looking for a talented and inspired manager to lead a team focused on bring-up of iPhone OS on new platforms."
Could this be Cupertino's response to the broadening use of the Android OS on netbooks and dual-boot laptops?
Whatever the reasoning we do know that wherever the iPhone OS goes, Apple's control goes with it, and while we wouldn't expect it to crop up on hardware outside of Apple's doors, many are speculating where we might see it next. Apple TV with direct access to the iTunes Store maybe? Loaded on to some MacBooks, the Apple Mini or an as-yet-unannounced netbook?
The opportunities are interesting, and would widen the possibilities of the App Store – but would you want such a heavy lockdown on any OS you used?
