Apple announcement set for late January but it's not iPad 3 shaped

Apple is planning an event in New York at the end of January – but the mystery announcement won't be anything to do with a certain iPad 3 or Apple TV/ iTV, according to All Things D's sources, who leaked details of the plans.

Eddy Cue, Apple's SVP of Internet Software and Services is rumoured to be involved in the plans so everyone's scratching their heads as to what Cupertino could be up to – a revamped App Store or iTunes Store perhaps?

We could also be seeing iAd or iCloud related tweaks or announcements, since Cue heads up these areas at Cupertino. Either way, don't expect any less Apple hype than we saw in 2011.
