Well, our predictions were close, but Apple's new 4GB iPod Shuffle has exceeded expectations by adding a new design and, strangely, a VoiceOver function that lets it talk to you.
We're not exactly sure why, but the new feature – not available on any other iPod – lets the Shuffle tell you in what we're hoping will be a comically robotic voice what song is playing, the artist and the names of your playlists.
Although there doesn't seem to be any Nike+ functionality, the new design seems to be aimed even more at runners and outdoorsy types with controls now placed on the earbud cord and the long design – reminiscent of the first 'chewing gum' version – still highly pocketable.
The original 2GB version is still available, though the 4GB capacity will give you room for a much healthier 1000 songs. Time to test it with some tricky album titles – 'Lift your skinny fists like antennas to heaven' by 'Godspeed You! Black Emperor' should do for starters.
