Apple event dated for 9 March, likely to deliver final Apple Watch release details

It’s that time - just days after MWC wraps, Apple will no doubt pin down its wearable debut

Apple CEO Tim Cook confirmed late last month that the Apple Watch will ship in April, perhaps a tiny bit later than the original “early 2015” estimate. And now the company is gearing up to share the proper details.

An event was just announced for 9 March at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, California, and Apple will also host one that evening at the Apple Store in Kurfürstendamm, Berlin. Apple is widely expected to use the events to provide final details for its wearable device – not only a proper release date, but actual pricing details for the whole line of watches.

The Apple Watch Sport is slated to be the entry-level model at US$349 (around £225), but the standard version will likely be a little pricier, and the gold, luxury Apple Watch Edition is sure to be much, much more expensive – perhaps several thousand dollars, if estimates pan out.

Apple marked its press invitations “Spring forward,” referring to the change of time (and season), and with the Apple Watch already confirmed for release sometime in April, its status as the headline focus seems certain. But what about other reported Apple developments?

After all, the company is reportedly set to debut its own streaming music service (based in Beats Music) in the coming months. Additionally, there’s word that Apple will open up beta testing for upcoming iOS versions, and a refreshed MacBook Air is both heavily rumoured and long overdue. Whether the event will cover any of those is yet unknown, but we know this: it’s about time to gear up for the Apple Watch’s release.
