New broadband speed record is a blistering 4.7Gbps

Kabel Deustchland opens the floodgates on the internet's series of tubes

German network provider Kabel Deustchland has managed to clock in an eye-watering new world download speed record of 4.7Gbps.

The record was set in the city of Schwerin, but don't pack your bags just yet – there's no way that a widespread infrastrucutre capable of dishing out such ridiculous speeds will be in place for a good long while yet.

Did we also mention that current laptops and PCs couldn't even begin to process such insane speeds? There, we just did.

Now if you'll excuse us, we're off to wrap our our cable modem in tin foil and put it in the microwave to see if we can't achieve similar results. For science.
