Hidden in a smart piece of minimalist furniture, it can project 147in images onto the white walls of your similarly minimalist flat in eyeball-massaging 4K prettiness.</p> <div class="field field-type-userreference field-field-byline"> <div class="field-label">Byline:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/my/users/tom-parsons" title="View user profile.">Tom Parsons</a> </div> </div> </div> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-group-sections"><legend>News Section</legend><fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-0"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Moving pictures </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>We had been told there was a projector in Sony&#39;s demo room before we walked in, but we still couldn&#39;t actually find it. And at either end there are sections that act as cabinets for your other electronics - think PS4, Blu-ray player, home cinema amp, etc.</p> <p>Although Sony wouldn&#39;t confirm it we&#39;re pretty confident that the system will be modular, so you can do without the speaker sections if you&#39;re connecting to an external system or add more of the component storage units if you&#39;ve got loads of sources.</p> <p>Essentially, it&#39;s all remarkably thoughtful, clever and neat, and we want it in our house right now. We&#39;re not just talking video, though - using an array of sensors built into the lamp it&#39;s actually possible to manipulate the interface so that you can look at photos, surf the web or check out any number of widgets. It&#39;s got to be the easiest and coolest way to check the news headlines while chowing down that we&#39;ve ever seen.</p> <p>We also saw a mirror that doubles-up as a display for news feeds, magazines and the like, and a pair of ceiling-mounted projectors that could create a sun-roof style vibe for your lounge. Best of all the devices could be synchronised to the same theme, whether that be a desert landscape or a tropical underwater vista, with the intention being to create a relaxing environment.</p> <p>Whether any of those extra gadgets ever make it to shops remains to be seen, but the creative thinking alone deserves a big round of applause.</p> <p><strong><a href="http://www.stuff.tv/my/ces-2014/ces-2014-all-biggest-stories-so-far/feature" target="_blank">CES 2014 - the biggest news so far, live from Las Vegas</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="Sony Smart Life UX" alt="Sony Smart Life UX" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/DSC02691.JPG?1389612434" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-2"> <div class="field-label">Image #2:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_2" width="1200" height="900" title="Sony Smart Life UX" alt="Sony Smart Life UX" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/DSC02695.JPG?1389612434" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-3"> <div class="field-label">Image #3:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_3" width="4912" height="3264" title="Sony Smart Life UX" alt="Sony Smart Life UX" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/DSC02713.JPG?1389612434" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-4"> <div class="field-label">Image #4:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_4" width="1200" height="900" title="Sony Smart Life UX" alt="Sony Smart Life UX" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/DSC02706.JPG?1389612434" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-box-out-title"> <div class="field-label">Box Out Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> 2014 CES Hot Stuff Award winner </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-box-out-body-text"> <div class="field-label">Box Out Body Text:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p><a href="http://www.stuff.tv/my/ces-2014/2014-ces-hot-stuff-awards-winners-meet-10-best-launches-show/feature" target="_blank">The Sony 4K Ultra Short-Throw Projector is one of our 2014 CES Hot Stuff Awards winners &ndash; At 98in and 110in, they’re aimed at the commercial market rather than your living room – which perhaps makes sense given that you’d need a living room the size of an aircraft hangar to house one comfortably.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-3"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Sony’s 4K projector and camcorder </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>Sony has always been at the forefront with 4K televisions, but at IFA this year the firm’s focus was on other Ultra HD products, namely the VPL-VW500ES home cinema projector and FDR-AX1 camcorder.</p> <p>The projector, which has a resolution of 4096 x 2160 and creates its picture with Sony’s tried and trusted SXRD tech, supports HDMI 2.0 and its Super Resolution 4K upscaling software promises to “dramatically” boost 1080p Blu-ray quality. It’ll be on sale at the end of October, priced at £8,500 (RM41,630).</p> <p>The FDR-AX1 is Sony’s first 4K camcorder pitched at consumers rather than pros (although at £3,800, it’s far from impulse buy fodder). It can squeeze up to two hours of 3840 x 2160 4K footage on a 64GB XQD memory card (there are two slots) and also records in full HD. There’s a 20x optical zoom lens on board – although we reckon future Sony 4K camcorders may well support the company’s range of A- and E-mount camera lenses.</p> <p>Sony also announced that existing owners of <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/stuff-cool-list-2013-4k-now-ready-conquer-your-living-room/feature">Bravia X9 4K TVs</a> would receive a firmware download adding HDMI 2.0 support.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="Sony VPL-VW500ES" alt="Sony VPL-VW500ES" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/sony-4k-projector.jpg?1386624512" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-2"> <div class="field-label">Image #2:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_2" width="1200" height="900" title="FDR-AX1" alt="FDR-AX1" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/sony-fdr-ax1-camcorder.jpg?1386624512" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-4"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Toshiba reveals “budget price” for 4K TV </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>Toshiba had a quiet IFA on the 4K front, showing off only a 50in prototype TV.
